The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia started the Saudi Green Initiative in 2021 with the goals of halting climate change, enhancing living standards, and safeguarding the environment for coming generations. The initiative's main goals are to protect land and wildlife, reduce emissions, and afforestation. The program, which has over 60 initiatives in place, represents large investments in the green economy.
Since the introduction of Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia, a
major producer of energy, has achieved notable strides in environmental
conservation. But much effort remains to be done to solve urgent climate
challenges. The Green Saudi Initiative is a major step towards Saudi Arabia's
goal of being a leader in the worldwide shaping of a green future. Its
objective is to create and carry out a national plan for sustainable climate
action in the Kingdom.
The Committee on Environment and Climate Change and the
Committee on Energy and Climate Change are the two specialized committees
overseeing the program. To guarantee efficient coordination and adherence to
international standards, these committees are coordinating efforts from the
public and commercial sectors. The first set of projects, estimated to be worth
more than 700 billion Saudi riyals, advances the green economy.
The Saudi Green Initiative's primary objective is to
preserve the environment and address issues like desertification, tree-cutting,
and the extinction of plants and animals. Leading this endeavour to guarantee
the prosperity and well-being of the Saudi Green is the Ministry of
Environment, Water, and Agriculture in collaboration with other government
departments and specialists. Initiative for the environment and living things.
With the 2016 introduction of Vision 2030, the Kingdom of
Saudi Arabia has made significant progress in the direction of a more
sustainable future. With the main objectives of offsetting and lowering
emissions, boosting afforestation and land restoration, and safeguarding the
Kingdom's land and sea, SGI was established in 2021 and integrates
environmental protection, energy transition, and sustainability projects.
